Robin Hood foundation, the Gambia is an establish charitable organization that started charity given in The Gambia for the last 15 years. The reason for establishing this business is to bring about sustainability in some of our numerous activities even without the donor agencies intervention. This idea was discovered by a young graduate of The University of The Gambia and his management team.
Having studied management and entrepreneurship development at university and the experience i have by working in small businesses, made me build the enthusiasm of proposing a business plan for a 13 seater van. A thorough study and consultation of the transport industry made me understand and realize the potential opportunities in it. We also realized that the industry is well organized and free from exploitation and harassment from several authorities. The business shall obtain the following certificates in order to start operations peacefully.
1. Certificate of Incorporation (obtained)
2. Tax payer identification number (obtained)
3. Inspection of premises by KMC (done)
Robin Hood foundation, the Gambia is located at No. 106 kombo sillah Drive, Kanifing Municipality, Churchill’s town is a strategic position for the head office. The van shall operate as a small scale enterprise within serre-kunda, Banjul and Brikama with the hope of expanding throughout the length of The Gambia and beyond borders in the future. The business will of course employ one capable Gambian driver to work towards its success, thereby creating employment which indeed will contribute to the socio-economic development of The Gambia, if dreams are realized. The business shall involve picking passengers from and to their destinations. It will be a full time service provider, offering delivery services to passengers at a little bit reduce price, lower than key rivals in the industry (treating them as the kings and queens of the business). It will be operating as follows;
Mondays – Thursdays 7.am -8.pm
Fridays (feast day) 7.am- 8.pm
Saturday’s 7.am- 8.pm
Sundays no work (rest)
Sundays (no work in adherence to one of the 9 tips of establishing a business, which is “maintain a balance between work leisure and family”). As mentioned earlier, the manager has brilliant ideas and the technical skills it takes to operate and manage the business. In order to capture the market and gain competitive strength, the business will adopt a penetrating pricing strategy. The projected financial statement shows positive cash flows which is expected to continue. The aim of the management is to earn 25% profit during the first half of operations. The management is also aiming to expand throughout the Gambia in 5 years.
